Strike quality

How cleanly do you strike your chips, and is your bad contact fat or thin?

What it measures

  • Every chipping drill asks whether each ball was clean, fat or thin. This card shows the share of each, based on the balls where contact was recorded.
  • A trend line shows your clean-contact rate across recent sessions.
  • It needs 10 recorded contacts. Fat or thin is only called the main problem when one is at least 10 points ahead of the other.

How it helps you

Contact comes first. A chip you strike badly tells you nothing about your distance or aim.

Fat and thin have opposite causes, so you need to know which one you have before you change anything.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Mostly fat

60 recorded contacts.

Strike mix
CleanFatThin
Clean
33 (55 %)
Fat
21 (35 %)
Thin
6 (10 %)

How to read it

  • Just over half of the contacts are clean, at 55 %.
  • Fat is 35 % and thin is 10 %, so the mistake is clearly one-sided.
  • A one-sided miss is good news, because it means a single fix.
AI coachFocus: Low point of the swing

35 % of your 60 recorded contacts are fat, against 10 % thin. Fat chips come from a low point behind the ball, and that also costs you distance and control.

Next session: Keep your weight forward through the strike. Line in the Sand (Chipping) shows you exactly where the club enters the ground.

Example 2

Contact is getting better

70 recorded contacts over five sessions.

Clean

Fat
12 (17 %)
Thin
10 (14 %)
Clean contact by session

How to read it

  • Overall you strike 69 % cleanly, and fat and thin are nearly even.
  • The trend matters more than the total. The line rises from 55 % to 74 %.
  • Compare the first and last points only when both sessions have 10 or more contacts.
AI coachFocus: Keep what is working

You strike 69 % of your recorded contacts cleanly, and your latest session is 19 points up on your first tracked one. Fat and thin are balanced, so there is no single fault to chase.

Next session: Keep the same setup. Now that contact is reliable, your next gain is in where the ball lands, so look at Landing precision.
