Miss quadrant

When you strike a chip well and still miss, which way does it go?

What it measures

  • Each miss with a recorded direction counts once, sorted into short, long, left and right.
  • Only cleanly struck chips count. A chunk that stops short is a contact mistake, not a distance one, and would send you off to practise the wrong thing.
  • It needs 15 directional misses before it names a pattern.

How it helps you

It tells you what to change once your contact is good: the landing spot, the club or your aim.

Because bad strikes are filtered out, a pattern here is about your decisions rather than your swing.

Drills behind this insight

Record any of these in the app and this insight updates when you save the session.

Classic options record only hit or missed, so they leave this card empty. Chipping 5 m Ladder and Landing & Finish record no miss direction either.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Clean strikes that stop short

26 directional misses on cleanly struck chips.

Where clean-contact misses go
Long: 3 of 26Short: 18 of 26Left: 3 of 26Right: 2 of 26Long 12 %3 missesShort 69 %18 missesLeft 12 %3 missesRight 8 %2 misses

How to read it

  • The short arm dominates: 18 of 26, or 69 %.
  • These were all clean strikes, so this is not a fat chip dying early.
  • Left and right are small, so your aim is working.
AI coachFocus: Distance control

69 % of your clean-contact chip misses finish short. Since these were good strikes, your swing is fine. Your landing spot is simply too close.

Next session: Land it past the front third of the distance you have been picking. Use Land It Low on the Never Short option, which charges you for every short miss.

Example 2

Too much release

20 directional misses on cleanly struck chips.

Where clean-contact misses go
Long: 12 of 20Short: 4 of 20Left: 2 of 20Right: 2 of 20Long 60 %12 missesShort 20 %4 missesLeft 10 %2 missesRight 10 %2 misses

How to read it

  • The long arm dominates: 12 of 20, or 60 %.
  • A chip can land on the right spot and still miss long if it runs too far.
  • Check Finish precision alongside this to see if the landing was right.
AI coachFocus: Reduce the release

60 % of your clean-contact chip misses run long. You are striking the ball well, and it keeps rolling past the target.

Next session: Take one club less and land it earlier. Tee Ball on Points gives you small targets along a line and records the direction of each miss.

All numbers here are illustrative sample data, and the coach notes show the kind of advice you get. In the app, the AI coach reads all your chipping data and gives you one focus with its reasoning, based on your own sessions. Each chart also has a one-line takeaway of its own.
