Landing & finish precision

Are you landing the ball on your spot, and does landing there actually pay off?

In the app: Landing precision + Finish precision

What it measures

  • Landing precision is the share of chips that landed where you aimed. Finish precision is the share that finished close. Both are shown overall and per distance.
  • Rollout accuracy pairs the two on the same ball: of the chips you landed right, how many also finished close? It sets that against chips that missed the spot and finished close anyway.
  • Each needs 10 balls. Only balls with both landing and finish recorded count toward rollout accuracy.

How it helps you

A landing spot is the part of a chip you control directly. This shows whether you can hit it.

Comparing the two rates tells you if your spot is the right one. If missing the spot works just as well, your spot is not doing anything for you.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Your landing spot works

60 chips with both landing and finish recorded.

Finished close, by where it landed
Landed on the spot
75 % 30 of 40
Missed the spot
20 % 4 of 20

How to read it

  • Top bar: of 40 chips that landed on the spot, 30 finished close.
  • Bottom bar: of 20 that missed the spot, only 4 finished close.
  • The big gap between them is what you want. It proves that your spot is the right one.
AI coachFocus: Push your spot further

75 % of the chips you landed right also finished close, against 20 % after missing the spot. That is your release working, and you can trust what you are picking.

Next session: Push the landing spot further out and try longer chips with the same process. The Chipping 5 m Ladder tracks both from each distance.

Example 2

You land it right, and it still runs away

60 chips with both landing and finish recorded.

Finished close, by where it landed
Landed on the spot
35 % 14 of 40
Missed the spot
25 % 5 of 20

How to read it

  • Landing is fine: 40 of 60 chips hit the spot.
  • Only 35 % of those finished close, not much better than the 25 % after missing it.
  • When hitting the spot barely helps, the spot is wrong for that club.
AI coachFocus: Club and release

Only 35 % of the chips you landed right finished close. You can hit your spot, so your execution is good. The spot and the club just do not fit together yet.

Next session: Take one club less and land it further on, so the ball runs a shorter way. Commit to that one club for a full Landing & Finish session before you judge it.

All numbers here are illustrative sample data, and the coach notes show the kind of advice you get. In the app, the AI coach reads all your chipping data and gives you one focus with its reasoning, based on your own sessions. Each chart also has a one-line takeaway of its own.
