Break map

Are some sides of the hole, or some breaks, costing you putts?

What it measures

  • The map splits your make rate into four sectors around the hole: 12–3, 3–6, 6–9 and 9–12 o'clock. It uses the station position the drill already records, so it fills in from your first Clock Drill.
  • The break split shows make rate by how the putt moved: left to right, right to left or straight, plus uphill, downhill or level. It uses the slope questions you answer when you save a session, so it fills in more slowly.
  • Sessions with no slope answer are left out of the break split, not shown as "unknown". A sector or a break needs 10 putts before it is compared.

How it helps you

It finds what a make rate by distance hides. Two players can both hole 60 % from 3 ft while one of them misses nearly every putt that breaks the same way.

It tells you whether to practise your read at all. If every side and every break looks the same, your read is not the weak link.

Drills behind this insight

Record any of these in the app and this insight updates when you save the session.

Straight-line drills have no place on the clock, so they never appear in the sectors. Gate Drill is left out: its strokes are gate passes, not attempts at the hole.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

One side of the hole leaks

80 putts around the hole from four Clock Drill sessions, 20 in each sector.

Make rate by position around the hole
12–3 o'clock: 14 of 20 holed70 %3–6 o'clock: 15 of 20 holed75 %6–9 o'clock: 8 of 20 holed40 %9–12 o'clock: 13 of 20 holed65 %12369

How to read it

  • Each sector shows your make rate from that side. Darker means more putts holed.
  • The 6–9 sector is the outlier at 40 %, while the other three sit between 65 % and 75 %.
  • Clock positions are the stations as you set them up, so a low sector points at one slope on that green.
AI coachFocus: Putts from the 6–9 side

You hole 75 % from 3–6 o'clock but only 40 % from 6–9. Your distance is the same on every station, so it is this side of the hole that costs you.

Next session: Put more reps on the 6–9 side, and answer the slope questions when you save. After a few sessions the break split will show whether it is the slope or your read.

Example 2

One break is much harder

68 putts with a slope answer: 24 left to right, 24 right to left and 20 straight.

Make rate by break
Left to right
33 % 8 of 24
Right to left
58 % 14 of 24
Straight
65 % 13 of 20

How to read it

  • Straight putts are your baseline, here 65 %.
  • Right-to-left putts are close to the baseline, so that read is working.
  • Left-to-right putts drop to 33 %, nearly half the baseline. That gap is the finding.
AI coachFocus: Left-to-right breaks

Left-to-right putts drop 33 % against 58 % on right-to-left. Your straight putts are solid at 65 %, so your stroke is fine. The problem starts when the ball has to move away from you in one direction.

Next session: Set up more reps on left-to-right breaks. Use Putting Map on a slope, and start with Direction scoring so you can see if those misses finish on the low side.

All numbers here are illustrative sample data, and the coach notes show the kind of advice you get. In the app, the AI coach reads all your putting data and gives you one focus with its reasoning, based on your own sessions. Each chart also has a one-line takeaway of its own.
