Lag speed control

From long range, do you get down in two, and where does your first putt stop?

In the app: Lag & Speed Control

What it measures

  • Two-putt conversion is the share of long putts finished in two putts or fewer, from 20 ft out, with a trend across sessions.
  • Leave quality shows where the first putt stopped: short, in the zone around the hole, or long. It is recorded only on the Speed Control option. A holed first putt is not counted as a leave.
  • Conversion needs 10 attempts. The short-or-long verdict needs 15 first putts that missed the zone.

How it helps you

Three-putts usually start with the first putt, not the second. This shows the habit behind them.

A two-putt rate alone does not tell you what to do on Saturday. Knowing you always stop short does.

Drills behind this insight

Record any of these in the app and this insight updates when you save the session.

No other drill feeds this card: it is the only one that records a whole hole-out from long range.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Dying short, the classic three-putt pattern

30 attempts on the Speed Control option.

How to read it

  • Conversion says what happened: 9 of 30 attempts needed three putts.
  • The bar says why. 16 of the 19 first putts that missed the zone stopped short.
  • A good lag is the middle segment. Short and long should be roughly balanced around it.
AI coachFocus: Hit your intended speed

You are leaving most lag putts short. 16 of your 19 leaves outside the zone stopped short of the hole, which leaves you a longer second putt than you need. That is where your nine three-putts come from.

Next session: Focus on hitting your intended speed, not on the line. Run No More 3 Putts on Speed Control from your longest band, and aim to finish past the hole.

Example 2

Running past the hole

40 attempts on the Speed Control option.

In the zone

Long

How to read it

  • More than half of the first putts stop in the zone, which is good.
  • Of the 18 that missed the zone, 14 ran past the hole.
  • Long is a better miss than short, but a return putt from past the hole is the one that costs the three-putt.
AI coachFocus: Take a little pace off

Your read of the distance is good, with 55 % of first putts in the zone. When you miss it, you miss long: 14 of those 18 ran past the hole. Your remaining three-putts are mostly the putt coming back.

Next session: Ease off a little and try to die the ball at the hole. Keep Speed Control on so you can see the long segment shrink.

All numbers here are illustrative sample data, and the coach notes show the kind of advice you get. In the app, the AI coach reads all your putting data and gives you one focus with its reasoning, based on your own sessions. Each chart also has a one-line takeaway of its own.
