Gate path

Does your stroke send the ball where you aimed it, and if not, to which side?

In the app: Gate Stroke Path

What it measures

  • Each stroke is a clean pass, a contact with the left tee, or a contact with the right tee. A holed ball on the Points option counts as clean. Short and long on Points are ignored, because they say nothing about path.
  • You see clean-pass rate overall, per gate width and as a trend across sessions. It needs 10 strokes for a reliable read.
  • A side is named only when it has at least 60 % of your contacts, from at least 10 contacts. If your misses on the Miss breakdown lean the same way, the card says so, because two separate signals agree.

How it helps you

It separates stroke from read. A missed putt looks the same from either cause, but the gate has no slope to read.

Gate width gives you a clear next level: when one width stops testing you, you narrow it.

Drills behind this insight

Record any of these in the app and this insight updates when you save the session.

Gate Drill is the only source. Its strokes do not count toward make rate, because they are gate passes from one fixed spot.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Contacts lean to one side

60 gate strokes. Width is the gap between the two tees.

Gate strokes

Left tee
6 (10 %)
Clean
36 (60 %)
Right tee
18 (30 %)
Clean passes by gate width
4.3 in
80 % 24 of 30
3.9 in
40 % 12 of 30

How to read it

  • The middle segment is clean passes: 36 of 60, or 60 %.
  • Of the 24 contacts, 18 hit the right tee. That is 75 %, well over the 60 % needed to call it a lean.
  • A narrower gate halves the clean rate here, so the fault gets exposed as the width tightens.
AI coachFocus: Stroke path

75 % of your gate contacts are on the right side, and your clean rate drops from 80 % to 40 % when the gate narrows. There is no slope or read in this drill, so this comes from your stroke.

Next session: Slow the stroke down and re-check your path before adding speed. Stay at 4.3 in until clean passes hold, then narrow it again.

Example 2

You have outgrown this width

50 gate strokes at one width.

Gate strokes
Left teeCleanRight tee
Left tee
3 (6 %)
Clean
45 (90 %)
Right tee
2 (4 %)

How to read it

  • Clean passes are 45 of 50, or 90 %.
  • Only 5 strokes made contact, so 3 against 2 is not a lean. The card does not name a side from a sample that small.
  • A number this high means the drill has stopped asking anything of you.
AI coachFocus: Narrow the gate

You pass the gate cleanly 90 % of the time, and your few contacts are split evenly. This width has stopped testing you, so more reps here will not change much.

Next session: Narrow the gate a notch by moving up a difficulty level, and expect the clean rate to drop at first. That is the point of it.

All numbers here are illustrative sample data, and the coach notes show the kind of advice you get. In the app, the AI coach reads all your putting data and gives you one focus with its reasoning, based on your own sessions. Each chart also has a one-line takeaway of its own.
