Bunker overview

How often do you get out of the sand at the first attempt?

In the app: Getting out

What it measures

  • Your escape rate: shots that left the bunker, divided by all bunker shots recorded. It needs 10 shots.
  • A tick on the meter marks about 50 %, the sand-save rate of tour players. A sand save also requires holing the next putt, so it is a harder measure than escaping. Use the tick as a reference, not as a target to compare yourself with directly.
  • Performance by sand condition splits the rate into dry, wet, loose and hard sand, using the question you answer when you save a session.

How it helps you

Leaving a ball in the sand is usually the most expensive mistake in the short game. This is the first number to fix.

The sand split shows if you have one technique that only works in one kind of bunker.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Still working on getting out

36 bunker shots, split evenly between dry and wet sand.

Escape rate
39 %
14 of 36 shots
Tour reference
~50 %
sand saves
Performance by sand condition
Dry sand
39 % 7 of 18
Wet sand
39 % 7 of 18

How to read it

  • Fewer than four in ten shots get out, so most of the time a second bunker shot follows.
  • Dry and wet are the same, at 39 %. The issue is your basic technique, not the sand.
  • Until this number is higher, proximity to the hole does not matter.
AI coachFocus: A repeatable escape

You escape 39 % of your bunker shots, 11 points below the tour reference of about 50 %. Dry and wet sand are the same for you, so this is about how the club enters the sand rather than the conditions.

Next session: Learn to hit the sand in the same place each time. Line in the Sand gives you a clear target behind the ball, and then Ring Edges will build a repeatable escape.

Example 2

Getting out, except in dry sand

40 bunker shots, 20 in each condition.

Escape rate
85 %
34 of 40 shots
Tour reference
~50 %
sand saves
Performance by sand condition
Dry sand
75 % 15 of 20
Wet sand
95 % 19 of 20

How to read it

  • The overall 85 % is good. Most shots get out.
  • All the same, 20 points separate the sand conditions, and both have 20 shots.
  • Wet sand lets the club bounce, while dry sand lets it dig in. Your misses are telling you which one you are doing.
AI coachFocus: Dry sand, then proximity

You escape 85 % of your bunker shots, which is well above the tour marker. From wet sand you are at 95 %, against 75 % from dry sand, so soft sand is where your remaining mistakes come from.

Next session: Put more reps on shots from dry sand. After that, look at Carry control to see how close you are finishing, not just whether you are out.

All numbers here are illustrative sample data, and the coach notes show the kind of advice you get. In the app, the AI coach reads all your bunker data and gives you one focus with its reasoning, based on your own sessions. Each chart also has a one-line takeaway of its own.
