Score vs par

Is your short-game scoring getting better, round after round?

What it measures

  • Total strokes over or under par for each Par 18 round. You play 9 greenside positions, each one a chip and then holing out with every stroke counted, so par is 18 at every difficulty.
  • It reads your raw strokes, not the drill score. The dashed line is par, and lower is better.
  • It appears after your first round.

How it helps you

It is the one number closest to a real scorecard, because chipping and putting are counted together.

A drill score can go up because you moved to an easier level. Strokes against par cannot.

Examples, and what the coach says

Example 1

Heading towards par

Six Standard Par 18 rounds on the same practice green.

Strokes against par, by round
Par (E)
+6+2
123456

How to read it

  • The line going down is good news. Lower means fewer strokes.
  • +2 means 20 strokes for the 9 holes, against a par of 18.
  • A small bump along the way, like round 3, is normal. Follow the overall direction.
AI coachFocus: Keep the same routine

You have gone from +6 to +2 in six rounds, and each of your last three rounds was better than the one before. Whatever you are doing in your chipping and putting is carrying over to scoring.

Next session: Keep playing Par 18 on the same green, so that the rounds stay comparable. Hole scores will tell you which part of the next two strokes is the easiest to find.

Example 2

Good rounds and bad rounds

Six Standard Par 18 rounds, on greens of different difficulty.

Strokes against par, by round
Par (E)
+3+1
123456

How to read it

  • The line zigzags between -1 and +5, with no direction at all.
  • You have already shot under par, so the ability is there.
  • A swing of 4 or 5 strokes on 9 holes is about consistency, or about where you play.
AI coachFocus: Compare like with like

Your rounds swing between -1 and +5. You have shown you can break par, so this is not a skill ceiling. Rounds on different greens and from different positions cannot be compared with each other yet.

Next session: Play your next three rounds on the same green from the same nine positions. If the swing stays, it is your consistency. If it shrinks, it was the setup.
